Software Engineer - Java

Montevideo, Uruguay

WorldQuant develops and deploys systematic financial strategies across a broad range of asset classes and global markets. We seek to produce high-quality predictive signals (alphas) through our proprietary research platform to employ financial strategies focused on market inefficiencies. Our teams work collaboratively to drive the production of alphas and financial strategies – the foundation of a balanced, global investment platform.

WorldQuant is built on a culture that pairs academic sensibility with accountability for results. Employees are encouraged to think openly about problems, balancing intellectualism and practicality. Excellent ideas come from anyone, anywhere. Employees are encouraged to challenge conventional thinking and possess an attitude of continuous improvement.

Our goal is to hire the best and the brightest. We value intellectual horsepower first and foremost, and people who demonstrate an outstanding talent. There is no roadmap to future success, so we need people who can help us build it.

Responsibilities:

We are looking to add to our middle office engineering team which works on WorldQuant's next generation distributed post trade processing system that provides a real-time view into the firm's trades, positions, PNL and risk.  Our system needs to process massive volumes of trade and market data in a latency sensitive manner with correctness, consistency and reliability in mind.  We work in an agile environment, and participate in all aspects of SDE life-cycle from design, development, testing to deployment and support.  As an engineer, you have a chance to work on various parts of this system, and get a first-hand working knowledge of how a trade moves from execution to settlement.  Our system is continually evolving in terms of both scale as well as new business features.

Mandatory Skills Description:

  • Strong Java developer
  • Possess working knowledge and experience with streaming applications development
  • Experience with Testing Frameworks
  • Strong database experience - particularly MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Ability to gather and understand requirements by working through and understanding how legacy code base (Perl/python) works in order to assess its limitations and build improved solutions
  • Ability to triage complex operational issues during on-call support rotation
  • Strong communication to work with development and the business teams

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience in Perl would be helpful, at the minimum being able to read/debug Perl code and basic familiarity is fine if they have the ability to understand the processes. Not expected to write any new perl code.
  • Python (basic support scripts for Java processes: light scripting, server startup/process automation)
  • Finance/Operations/SecMaster experience is a plus but not required.
