Hour-by-Hour of a Trader

Here is a typical day:
6:00
Get up
 
6:30
Run around to get some exercise
 
7:30
Shower and connect remotely to the WorldQuant trading system
 
8:30
Go through trading numbers from Asia and Europe, make sure strategies are running properly, check integrity and performance numbers
 
9:00
Go through emails from overseas, discuss research topics and projects
 
9:30
Eat breakfast and come to work
 
10:00
Go through various news sources to see what happened overnight
 
11:00
Meet with some researchers to discuss current research topics
 
12:00
Develop strategies, trying out various ideas; this is the fun part and takes up most of my time
 
15:00
Sometimes, debug codes and implement new features to my simulator; other times, attend meetings to improve executions and data management or read academic papers and discuss them with peers
 
15:30
Throughout the day, constantly check U.S. trading numbers to make sure strategies are working properly
 
16:00
After the close, check the final trading numbers

Go home, eat dinner and relax
